NC State University College of Education Scholarship
Transformational Scholarships Program is now open for application from eligible applicants wishing to study in the United States of America. The NC University will provide scholarships totaling $40,000 over four years to promising high school students from Eastern North Carolina who will return to the region to teach after graduating from NC State’s College of Education.
About Transformational Scholarships Program
The scholarship was Launched in summer 2021 thanks to a generous charitable grant from the Anonymous Trust. The program welcomed its first cohort of 20 Transformational Scholars in the fall of 2022.
Application For The NC State University Scholarship
The question on the Transformational Scholars Program application will focus on students’ knowledge and dedication to innovative teaching. Students will have the option to submit their application for priority review.
The deadline to apply is January 31, 2024. A committee composed of NC State faculty, staff, and education and community leaders from Eastern North Carolina will review all applications.
Benefit of The Program
Transformational Scholars are future teachers who will;
- Receive $10,000 per year in scholarship support for up to four years, in addition to funds that support professional development such as study abroad and conference participation
- Participate in field experiences, summer work, student teaching and other activities that equip them to return to Eastern North Carolina to work as teachers after completing their undergraduate degree
- Receive direct mentoring from College of Education faculty and education leaders living and working in Eastern North Carolina, including graduates of NC State’s Leadership Academies (NELA)
- Develop lifelong relationships through a cohort model where Transformational Scholars will support and be supported by the same group of peers over their time in the program

Transformational Scholars Application Process
Below outlines the timeline and process for prospective students interested in the 2028 cohort.
Invitation to Apply
In early-December, the Transformational Scholars Program will issue invitations to apply to prospective first-year NC State students who have applied for fall 2024 admission. This invitation gives each student access to the Transformational Scholars Program online application. The invitation is sent to the email address listed on the student’s general NC State application. The application is accessible via Pack ASSIST.
Eligibility Criteria
To be considered to receive an invitation to apply, a student must:
- Submit the general NC State application by Nov. 1, 2023, or January 15th, 2024.
- Indicate financial need (confirmed via the FAFSA. See the ‘Free Application for Federal Student Aid Submission’ below)
- Be a resident of an Eastern North Carolina county
- Demonstrate their commitment to returning to Eastern North Carolina to teach for a minimum of 2-years
- Show commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion
- Demonstrate their commitment to the teaching profession
Transformational Scholars Interview Process
Transformational Scholars finalists will be selected and notified in late January and invited to participate in a virtual interview. Finalists will participate in interviews conducted by the review committee that will take place in late-February 2024.
Recipient Selection and Notification
The review committee will select the Transformational Scholars after the finalist interviews in mid-February 2024. Recipients will be notified in early March.
Students selected to be a Transformational Scholar must notify the College of Education by April 1, 2023, their acceptance of the scholarship offer. Transformational Scholars should confirm their enrollment in NC State by May 1, 2024.

Meeting all of our eligibility criteria does not guarantee you will receive an invitation to apply.
Does receiving an invitation to apply to Transformational Scholars mean I am admitted to NC State?
No, receiving an invitation does not guarantee admission to NC State.
I am graduating from an early college. Will I be eligible for Transformational Scholars?
Possibly. Students graduating from an early college program in partnership with a four-year university may be eligible for Transformational Scholars.
I am a transfer student looking to enroll at NC State in the spring. Am I eligible for the Transformational Scholars Program?
Unfortunately, no. Transfer students are not eligible for the Transformational Scholars.
Do I need to enroll as a full-time student at NC State to be eligible for Transformational Scholars?
Yes.
