UNA Scholarships And Awards

UNA Scholarships And Awards are now open for application from eligible applicants. The Ukrainian National Association offers a variety of scholarship and award options for its student members pursuing higher education. We encourage students to apply for the UNA Scholarships and Awards for which they feel they are most qualified.

UNA Scholarships And Awards

These scholarships and awards include:

1. UNA Heritage Scholarships funded by the UNA ($1,000 each)
2. UNA Special Scholarships funded by specific benefactors:
   1. Joseph and Dora Galandiuk Scholarship ($2,000)
   2. Dmytro & Slava Jarosewycz Memorial Scholarship ($1,000)
   3. Maria and Taras Slevinsky Scholarship ($1,000)
   4. Philadelphia District Stefan Hawrysz Scholarship ($1000)
   5. Vera Stangl Scholarship ($750)
   6. Joseph Wolk Scholarship ($750)
   7. Demidenko scholarship ($500)
   8. Ukrainian National Home Corp. of Blackstone, Mass., Scholarships ($500 each)

Ukrainian National Association Heritage Scholarship Application

FOR UNDERGRADUATE AND GRADUATE STUDENTS

The UNA introduced five $1,000 UNA Heritage Scholarships to celebrate its 125th anniversary and to recognize the UNA’s role in insuring our community in the past, today and in the future.

Eligibility Requirements

A UNA Heritage Scholarship applicant must:

1. Have been an active, premium-paying UNA member for at least two years by June 1 of the filing year
2. Have a policy valued at a minimum of $5,000 during the last two years (Term Life policies excluded)
3. Be pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree at an accredited junior college, college or university on a full-time or part-time basis in the United States or Canada

Applications For UNA Heritage Scholarship

The application for a UNA Heritage Scholarship must be completed in its entirety, signed and dated, and postmarked no later than June.

The following must be submitted along with the application:

1. Transcripts of grades from the most recent fall and spring semesters
2. Passport-size photo of the student
3. Essay of 400-500 words on one of these topics:
   – How does being of Ukrainian/American/Canadian heritage benefit and/or challenge your personal future in an increasingly diverse global context?
   – How do our Ukrainian heritage, traditions, institutions/organizations contribute to our society in North America?
   – Why is the UNA relevant to our community into the future?
4. UNA Heritage Scholarships are granted for one academic year only; for renewal of a scholarship, a new application and updated documents must be submitted.
5. Students can file for multiple scholarships offered by the UNA if they meet the eligibility requirements.

UNA Special Scholarship Application

FOR UNDERGRADUATE STUDENTS

The UNA offers eight Special Scholarships:

Joseph and Dora Galandiuk Scholarship

One $2,000 scholarship for a student excelling in the sciences or accounting
College students who are freshmen, sophomores and juniors are eligible to apply

Dmytro & Slava Jarosewycz Memorial Scholarship

One $1,000 scholarship for a student of Ukrainian heritage excelling in his/her studies
College students who are freshmen, sophomores and juniors are eligible to apply

Maria and Taras Slevinsky Scholarship

The Maria and Taras Slevinsky Scholarship will provide students who are studying nursing full time $1,000 per year.
Students must have a UNA qualifying policy; Applicants must be studying nursing full time; Students must be enrolled as full-time undergraduate students at an accredited college or university in the United States or Canada; Students must submit a completed UNA scholarship application and provide a brief essay.

Philadelphia District Stefan Hawrysz Scholarship ($1000)

One $1000 scholarship for a Philadelphia District Branch member (Philadelphia branches that qualify are 10, 83, 153, 162, 163, 173, 362, 397, and 501)
College students who are freshman, sophomores and juniors are eligible to apply

Vera Stangl Scholarship

One $750 scholarship for a student of Ukrainian heritage studying journalism or nature/wildlife
College students who are freshmen, sophomores and juniors are eligible to apply

Joseph Wolk Scholarship

One $750 scholarship for a student of Lemko heritage
High school seniors and college students who are freshmen, sophomores and juniors are eligible to apply

Danylo Andrii Demidenko Scholarship ($500)

Undergraduate students studying in the medical field

Ukrainian National Home Corp. of Blackstone, Mass Scholarships

Multiple $500 scholarships for students who are residents of the New England area and members of New England UNA Branches
High school seniors and college students who are freshmen, sophomores and juniors are eligible to apply

Applicants must indicate on their application for which UNA Special Scholarship(s) they wish to apply.

UNA Award Application

FOR UNDERGRADUATE STUDENTS

UNA Awards are granted upon completion of the senior year of high school and during the freshman, sophomore and junior years of college.

Students receive a monetary award depending on their year of study: freshmen receive the lowest award amounts, while seniors receive the highest awards. Amounts awarded by the UNA Scholarship Committee depend on the availability of UNA funds in any given year.

A UNA Award applicant must:
